Kinetic
Your Potential in Practice
A talent development programme from The Human Performance Studio
Kinetic starts from a simple premise: everyone has potential. Most corporate development follows a single route, upwards into management. But much of a person’s potential has nothing to do with leading others. It lies in doing their current role better, broadening what they can contribute, and growing in directions a promotion ladder doesn’t capture. Kinetic is built for that kind of growth.
The programme is designed for emerging talent in corporate teams: people early or midway through their careers who are capable, motivated and ready to develop, whether or not leadership is their next step. It draws on performance psychology, the same science used with elite athletes, performing artists and high-pressure professions, and applies it to everyday working life. Participants explore how they respond under pressure, what drives and drains their motivation, and how their thinking shapes their performance. Each concept links to situations participants recognise from their own work, and each seminar ends with something to try straight away.
A distinctive feature of Kinetic is its approach to reflection. Most people are asked to “reflect” without ever being shown how. Kinetic uses a structured model adapted from John Mason’s Discipline of Noticing. It helps participants catch the moments that matter as they happen, describe them accurately rather than judging them, and decide in advance how they want to respond next time. This turns reflection from a box-ticking exercise into a skill that keeps building after the programme ends.
Alongside the seminars, participants meet in small action learning sets, working with peers on real challenges from their own roles. Each set is facilitated by one of the organisation’s own senior leaders, trained and supported by The Human Performance Studio. This is where ideas from the programme are tested in practice and turned into lasting habits, and where senior leaders build their own coaching capability.
By the end of Kinetic, participants will be able to:
- recognise their own patterns under pressure and use evidence-based strategies to perform well within them
- identify their strengths, values and sources of motivation, and use these to shape their development
- apply a structured noticing practice to learn from everyday experience
- set out clear, realistic next steps for growing in and beyond their current role
Format: A 12-month blended programme for cohorts of up to 30, combining ten seminars delivered in person and online with six action learning sets in groups of around six, led by trained internal facilitators. E-learning support through The Human Performance Studio’s learning platform, including session recordings and further resources, runs throughout.
Who delivers it: Kinetic is designed and delivered by Dr Jenni McArthur, CPsychol, a Chartered Psychologist with extensive experience working of with high performers in elite sport, the performing arts, emergency services and global organisations.
Participants leave Kinetic with new skills, a clearer sense of their potential, and the tools to keep putting it into practice.
